What is the role of social science? Back at my dear old workplace “SFI-The Danish National Centre for Social Research” to give a talk on SFI and the Danish society. SFI is an applied research center which historically has been the most important agenda-setting institution in Denmark. Today, SFI scholars master advanced qualitative and quantitative methods and publish in the best journals and their commissioned reports on social issues inform policy-making. Pressed for time, money and incentives, however, the engaged scholar face a hard time and the impact of SFI on the Danish society is smaller than its potential. Hopefully the new CEO can help unleash this potential, e.g. by giving providing material and information on social issues to educational institutions ranging from high schools over schools for teachers, nurses and social workers to universities and welfare professionals. For more on SFI check their website or homepage on Facebook.
